Community school

What do the teachers say about the solution?

We started with SMART screens in connection with the research project: Digital Interactive Mathematics teaching in 2015. From the autumn of 2021, SMART screens will be used in all classes in upper secondary school, and in addition these screens are part of our new project: Future Classroom Lab. There we also have 6 screens available for students' group work.

The vast majority of junior high school teachers use the SMART screens every day and are very happy with the new technology. This is the future! For teachers, it is important that the screens work optimally in teaching, and therefore training and introduction to the use of the screens is the most important thing for the success of new technology.

How does the solution work as a didactic tool?

The SMART screens are used somewhat differently from teacher to teacher. Some people choose to connect us their own Chromebook or Mac and use the screen more as a display screen and take advantage of the touch function with a separate control cable. Others choose to log on to the board with their own account or class account and use the screens without connection.

SMART screens have endless didactic possibilities: Movies from YouTube, Netflix or movie resources from publishers can be viewed directly with a single keystroke. Of course, other learning resources and electronic textbooks can also be displayed on the screen. Presentations and documents from the teacher's or students' disk can be easily retrieved and presented in class. And not least all the possibilities that exist within Lumio (formerly SLSO) for arrangements in the lessons.

The screen can of course be switched around to a regular whiteboard that can be written on with a digital marker. And then there are opportunities to combine views of finished documents with the use of pens to focus on parts of the text.

The screens also have ready-made apps that provide rich opportunities to facilitate modern teaching.

How is it used with the students?

All classes have a screen in front of the classroom. It is mostly used by teachers in plenary sessions, but students also use it when they have presentations in class or have to show their solutions to problems.

In addition, we try out several screens that the students have at their disposal in connection with group work. We have developed a form where the students and the teacher can assess the level at which the collaboration works. To achieve one of the four highest levels out of a total of 7, the SMART screen must be actively used in group work.

What educational benefits does the interactive screen / software provide?
Sound, image, interactivity, mirroring of one's own digital devices and connection to the Internet provide great educational benefits. In addition, there are great opportunities for variation in teaching by using Lumio: games, student response, individual assignments / group assignments and the interaction between the SMART screen and the students' Chromebook controlled by the teacher.

What tools engage students?
Share the message, Monsterquiz, game show etc. games in Lumio create great engagement in the class.

Legræid school

What do the teachers say about the solution?

They use the board via PC, memory stick and SLSO. How they use the board depends a bit on the content of the class and how long they will be in the classroom.

If you use the same board all day, you log on to the board. Feedback from part-time teachers and teachers of younger students is that it takes too much time to log on, of which they probably use a PC instead. Functions in the board that are most often used are; blackboard, clock, writing (preferably several in teams).

Some teachers also use Smart Notebook and Smart Lab with, for example, «share the message». Others use the resources through SLSO. They make arrangements (in the home office) which they pick up on the board. They share files with the students and use Monsterquiz as a summary of the week.

How does the solution work as a didactic tool?

The tool works well in terms of the resources we choose to use. Browser was better and better after updating, and Firefox works well. For those who use a PC, it is great that the board has a pause button so that the teacher can find a new arrangement without the students seeing what he / she is doing.

How is it used with the students? Pupils can use the board to write on, as a board and answer in digital books. They have used "share the message" for prior knowledge, have monster quizzes, watch joint educational films or other reviews. Students get homework in SLSO td column. Screen sharing is something that works well in classes with older students.

What do the teachers say about the solution?

On the class ladder 1-10th grade, we have smartboards in all classrooms. We use them every hour, both to show the current teaching plan, quiz, film, web search and as a more traditional board, for example in mathematics. In subjects such as English and Norwegian, we have used SMART Learning Suite's resources with various student activities. We connect the students' learning boards to the smart board.

Mountain school

Fjell School was built new in 2020, and the teachers wanted a digital whiteboard solution that could meet today's, but also tomorrow's requirements to be able to give teachers the digital support needed for a school in 2020.

Fjell School wants to be at the forefront of digital pedagogy, but wanted a solution that involved flexible and reliable solutions. The content products had to be of good quality, and support the pedagogical didactics that was desired.

It was important for Fjell School that the user groups were given a mandate to be able to carry out the professional assessment in choosing a solution. A group of teachers was therefore set up to make a recommendation for the solution. In the assessment, it was also emphasized that the solution had to have simple connections and a functional user interface.

What do the teachers say about the solution?

Fjell School had the opportunity to visit Interactive to see and test different solutions. There we received good advice and review. They were particularly concerned about usability, which was in line with our wishes. Furthermore, we had the opportunity to test the screen at school for a longer period and in a teaching context. It made us even more confident in the choice, and gave more teachers, management, etc., the opportunity to try the screen before we decided. Interactive also came on courses during the test period, so we got to know more tools that the SMART screen has.

What tools engage students?

In the SMART Learning Suite you can create creative and fun teaching programs that activate the students. There you can set up varied teaching with individual assignments and in groups. You can use game-based puzzles and quizzes. The students experience this as motivating and fun. Otherwise, the screen has good functions in the "board", where you can easily search for images for the topic you have about, make mind maps, etc. and use mathematical tools such as ruler and protractor.

Granvin School

Granvin children's and youth school is a school with approx. 90 students and 15 teachers. The school has had a targeted digital investment since 2013. 1st-5th grade still has its Ipad, and the rest of the school still has its PC, in addition, every classroom has an interactive screen. We are trying out new digital "gadgets", and now it is the programming of Tello drones, Microbit and 3D printing that is relevant.

Granvin children's and youth school received 5 pcs. Smart MX boards, in January 2019. These interactive boards replace older Smart boards with projectors. A big step forward to be able to see the entire screen clearly and distinctly, without adjusting the projector and calibrating the board.

How is the solution used with the students?

The school has since 2011 used Smart boards from 1.-7. class, and teachers have used Smart Note software in their daily teaching. The upgrade in 2019 with new Smart MX boards has given us a new everyday life with new possibilities. Interactive whiteboards in teams with Smart Learning Suite Online, give us more digital opportunities in the classroom. We can engage students in new and more motivating ways. The MX boards have everything the teacher needs to give students good and varied digital teaching.

On the planning day in August 2019, all the staff were on a study trip to Oslo, where we had an inspiration day at Interactive Norway. There I was presented and tried out new ways to use the Smart MX boards. This gave us insight and knowledge for more testing in the classroom.

What educational benefits does the interactive screen / software provide?

Both the whiteboards and the Smart Learning Suite are constantly evolving. This means that you constantly get new opportunities, in addition to making the program / board easier to use. We believe we have made the right choice for a more adapted digital everyday life for teachers and students.

Sogndal municipality

Eksempel på buk av SMART i undervisning

What do the teachers say about the solution?

In Sogndal Municipality, we have chosen to standardize smart boards in our classrooms for SmartBoard. In this way, we can drive joint skills development with the employees, and they can more easily share ideas and schemes with each other. We are concerned that our students will meet the same learning offer regardless of what school they go to in the municipality. For the employees at IT, it is also much easier to have the right competence and be able to provide good support on a standardized solution, and it is a great advantage to have a permanent contact person at the supplier who can answer all questions. We experience that SmartBoard and Smart Notebook are particularly good and popular learning tools in Sogndalsskulen.

How is the solution used with the students?

Teacher, Sagatun Skule: «I use the Notebook software a lot! This autumn, for example, we had a project on dental health. The students were divided across grades 1-4. - that is, mixed age groups and walked around different stations. At my station we worked with tooth extraction, mathematics and statistics. I made a notebook file where I had added a template to the bar chart. On the page, there were proposals for 4 squares in different colors that were "infinite clones". These the students could choose from when they had to illustrate how many teeth they had lost. We also made a similar one on sheets that hung on the wall. Students constantly fill in new squares when they lose teeth. This is how we got the diagram concretized and varied the exercise - then the students think even better.

Teacher, Leikanger Ungdomsskule: «I often use Smartboard in my subjects; KRLE, social studies and Norwegian. It is so great for reviewing subject matter, for making nice presentations, and for creating question and answer assignments.
It is also great to use to paste links from the internet, so that I can go straight to the pages with one click. Then I also let the students come up and click on pictures or concepts etc. Easy to use, with many good features. You can also share programs with other teachers, which is a big advantage. "

Teacher, Kvåle Skule:  "I use both Smartboard and Smart Notebook every day, and I think Notebook is a very simple program for making PowerPoint-like slides, but where you have a little more freedom than in PP to do it a little as you want. In any case, I feel that I can make engaging lectures in a different way than with regular blackboard teaching! "

Rømskog school

What do the teachers say about the solution?

Rømskog School is a native primary school with 57 students per. October 2020. In 2016, we ordered 5 interactive SMART 6065 on a mobile stand with raising / lowering function, we supplemented with another board the following year. The flat screen has superior image quality compared to the digital boards we had before, there are no shadows on the board / screen and it is completely noise-free. Wheelbarrow was chosen so that it can be moved around the classroom when needed. In terms of price, the screens were somewhat more expensive than the ones we had before, at the same time 4 years of operation so far have shown that it was a good investment. All screens are in daily use in teaching, they are easy to use and are equally whole and without scratches.

How is the solution used with the students?

We use various learning and board resources associated with learning materials and platforms. Text, sound and writing in the textbook are used here. SMART Board can be used as a whiteboard for writing, viewing and communicating. Then the sweep resource is great; you can go back to what has been written or bring up new blank pages.

Eksempel på bruk av SMART i undervisning

We can show how to find out online in connection with tasks to be done or tutorials in functions on iPad / apps. The screen can be used to watch NRK school, YouTube, maps, view pictures etc. It can also be used in connection with presentations made by the students and teacher presentations as part of the teaching.

Raise school

What do the teachers say about the solution?

Here at Opphaug school we have had interactive whiteboards from SMART for many years. 2 years ago we got new boards with built-in IQ in every classroom. This provided many more opportunities both for the teachers and in collaboration with the students. Not having to connect your own PC, and having a browser built into the boards, is flexible and efficient in the classroom.

What tools engage students?

The tool we absolutely like best is Smart Learning Suite Online, both what is built into the board tool on the board itself with "Shout out" and the options that are there, but also the option that is in the browser. There you can build up different teaching programs with opportunities for many activities that create student activity. Students connect to lessons through their ipad or pc. This way we can work both on the board together and the students can work on their own unit. This creates variety and motivation.

Damsgård school

What do the teachers say about the solution?

With us, SMART monitors and SMART software SMART Notebook and Smart Learning Suite Online (SLSO) are an important part of flexible learning. Both at the small stage and the intermediate stage.  The screens are an important part when we work in SLSO. Then the students can either come forward and show their contribution or we open their contribution on the screen and they tell how they have thought.

SMART screens are also used as a visual and auditory tool. This increases the understanding of the content of subject matter and contributes to a common focus in the class. SMART also has a well-functioning system that takes care of the users. They listen to the users and are constantly evolving. Interactive also offers great courses to SMART users, and is always helpful if we have any questions or need assistance.

How does the solution work as a didactic tool?

Having digital screens in all rooms, including the special rooms, provides an expanded use of students' devices. We have a unique opportunity to vary the learning process. By using SLSO, we can alternate between communication and student activity in a session.

How is the solution used with the students?

We let the students use the screens actively during station work, work in small groups and by them coming forward and solving and presenting tasks.

Eksempel på bruk av SMART i undervisning

What educational benefits does the interactive screen / software provide?

Inside SLSO there are countless possibilities. You as a teacher can create game-based activities, you can hand out worksheets that can either be worked on individually, in small groups or all in a collaborative document. There are templates for activating prior knowledge, for questions and reflection, graphic organizers and various semi-concrete. You can create work files that students can work with, both at school and at home. The screens are then used to review and present the assignments. In SLSO, it is also very easy to carry out formative assessments. This gives us teachers a unique opportunity to follow students' learning outcomes and adjust our own practice based on the results we get.

What tools engage students?

When starting a theme or along the way / ending a theme, "Share the message" is used a lot with us - then the screens are a "must" - the students then see what others have answered and can get some tips if they are stuck and we can highlight one and one contribution and the students are told more. This is engaging and motivating for the students - they take an active part in their own learning.
